Now what?

Sara, you may disagree, but I'm glad it failed. This is pretty serious legislation we're talking about here, and I think it's good that enough members of Congress said "Stop! We need to make sure this is absolutely the right bill to pass!"

I feel like the same fear-mongering by the Bush Administration that got us into Iraq is at work here, and would do irreparable harm to our economy.

I especially like the part where the GOP is blaming Pelosi for the bill failing. WTF? Both parties agreed that half their members would support it. Pelosi got hers to vote yes, the GOP bailed, and it's her fault? Dude. What planet are these people on?

It's plain old politics. The GOP got us into this mess, and they want to blame it on anyone else.

you know, maybe all these companies need to fail.

just fail.

no money. no bailout. just go through the pain.

Some economist on CNN said they should just go through bankruptcy. No bailout. I'm going to think about that.

Airlines go bankrupt all the time, but they keep flying.

Well, the problem with that is when average people go to get a loan? they won't be able to get one.

or small and mid sized companies.

but I have to say, there is something to it. let it drop.

Sara, I can't believe we actually agree on something. I don't think we should bail out any company. Bring charges to all who broke the rules and prosecute them to the full extent of the law so no one will do it again.
Your sister-in-law conservative!

yes, tonita... as I read more and more... I'm starting to think that the middle class and poor will get fucked any way they turn.

the only difference is with no bailout, the guys who ran this into the ground lose their jobs.

and that's the only difference I can see.

I hope they (congress) does something now to actually fix the system. I'm tired of the middle class getting screwed. They can take the time to work on it and get it right, so that it helps the middle class instead of screwing them again.

I think the fact that people are so overwhelmingly against the bailout shows how badly Bush and the GOP have lost credibility. I hope it shows on Nov. 4!

but I wonder about my retirement. Will I have one? I can't save up for another one... the money I have is all I have -

I don't think there will be retirement for many people in the near future.

Oh look, it's the next morning and the sun came up. I've lost 10K overnight because I didn't move everything into money markets last week, but some CEO is not getting even a fraction of his golden parachute. YES! Somethings are priceless...
