I Won't Answer the Questions the Way You Want Me To

Did Karl Rove school this woman?

I'm going to talk straight to the American people?

Oh god.

Why does Biden keep repeating himself?

because he's saying bush bush bush equals mccain mccain mccain... it's a redundant concept- bush=mccain.

Oh, I agree. I felt that it was real. I was just surprised...especially after seeing the "cutsey" bs that had been going on.

I didn't see any blunders she did....looks like she made it out without a boo boo

then, anon, you weren't watching closely.

she stuck to talking points and when she couldn't answer a question, she simply said, I won't.

she was way too "cute" at the end. coached. not very real.

but I will say, she did not fuck up. she was no dan quayle, and senator, I knew dan quayle...

anyone notice how Palin says "nuclear"? It was exatly the way Bush says it. completely wrong. she really did ignore the questions and continue on with her coached agenda. Way, way too smiley. Not genuine.

well, it's a big crazy word and my goodness, so hard to say.

I don't mean to hammer on her- I think she did very well.

and a part of me feels sorry for her. she was shaking in the beginning and I think she is in way over her head...

I think she did fine... If the standards are avoiding meltdown and major embarrassment. But I actually think this was to the Democrats' advantage. It's not that part of me didn't want to watch her self-destruct, but could Biden really have been as forceful as he was if she was floundering around? Wouldn't he have been spun as sexist, elitist, and just plain mean? Instead, he got the platform to make a very strong and compelling case as to why McCain would be a disaster for this country--and in so doing appeared smart, strong, and likeable--and early polls of undecided voters indicate that they were much more swayed by Biden than by her.

14:55 14:56 14:57 14:58 14:59 ding ding ding ding!

Palin's 15 minutes are done. She acquitted herself well enough that she's no longer the story.

Now the story becomes McCain's increasingly erratic behavior.

yes, Lisa, I think you make a great point. Biden didn't have to look like a big meanie when he went after her.

in fact, he cooled it with the big grin of disbelief a couple times when he needed to.

I will say this- she did seem to sincerely admire Biden. it didn't always come off as sincere but the moments before and after the debate... it did.

Finkelstein in the Times (UK): by not winning, Palin lost. McCain needed a game-changing win, didn't get it. Obama's so far ahead that if nothing earth shattering happens, Obama wins.

p.s., not an encouraging sign, but Biden says he and Obama do not want the civil government to change the definition of marriage which is, surprise surprise, exactlu what Prop 8 and the Craig-Vitter amendment do.

Biden is a lawyer and knows subtle language . A few good judges who recognize that marriage is a right all people already have , as in California, it just might happen.

Not happydance time, but not despair time imho. I promise to do my part to keep the pressure on.

In case you've been wondering, here's the thing with gay marriage:

Biden & Obama have quieted down about this topic ever since the election got close.

WHY?

Swing voters. People who are undecided. Gay marriage is a hot topic!

YES, we all want a president who supports us openly, and will bring about change, and I sincerely believe Obama is that kind of man. The problem is if he shows support for us, he may lose many swing voters who are considering marking his name on election day.

Is this right? Nope, it's not, but the reality is, if he has to quiet down about gay marriage for a little while during the clinching moments of this election, in order to win, I'll take it. I know that once he's IN THE WHITE HOUSE his hope and change attitude will be able to apply more freely.

So why ruin it for him now by pressing an issue that a lot of people are extremely passionate about? Obama's goal still remains to bring people together, to meet in the middle, and I believe he will. We just have to be patient enough to see his ass into the white house so these changes can really take place.

That's my two cents.

you are absolutely right AJ.

no sense in talking about it now. I think Biden's slip showed his real belief... and we'll get there.

right now? it's a state issue.
