Reality versus Fantasy

Las Vegas... I don't love the place. Sorry for those of you who live out there, and probably experience a whole different world. For me? It was a symbol the excess of our society. Too much, too loud.

Sure, I had fun at the black jack table when we went to the Bellagio. And the Chihuly- well, you all know I love my Chihuly. It was stunning. We met a lovely group of folks from Alabama that night. We all laughed and joked as we lost our money.

I think I'd rather play with chips that are worth nothing. I do like the game.

The image of the Hoover Dam, versus the faux pyramid and Eiffel tower struck me. On one hand, there is effort that took a tremendous amount of brainpower and will, and on the other, I kept wondering... why?

I did not have a lap dance. The reality versus the fantasy... let's just say I prefer the fantasy. My sister was right. It's kinda gross.

I guess that's what Vegas is- a big giant fantasy. A place to escape, let any of your inhibitions go. I can appreciate that but it's not for me. I guess I've been a mom for too long.

Don't take me too seriously this morning. I'm out of sorts, bad time zone adjustment, and sad my wife is gone for the week. It was great to spend some alone time with her. But now I'm back to life and have to grocery shop, do piles of laundry and catch up on the news.

Out of curiosity, did your Alabama friends have anything to say about your relationship? Did they seem comfortable hanging out with a couple of lesbians? (Maybe they were gay, too. Stranger things have happened.)

I'm an Alabama girl, so I wonder...

that's an interesting question- while we asked about them- a wife, husband and the wife's mom- they did not ask about us.

we were just "from boston."

there was no discomfort on any level from them but I have to say, it wasn't a place I'd walk around holding hands with my wife. too many straight white guys drunk out of their minds.

I'm no mom, and I was over Las Vegas in about an hour. There's good food, good shows, lots of entertainment in the casinos, but I don't know how anyone with a conscience can block out the poverty, substance abuse, and addition that are everywhere in that city.

I found it a pretty depressing place, actually.

Er, that would be "addiction".

I've been to Vegas numerous times. I enjoy it, but I'm the type to be obnoxious with the rest of the idiots because, well, it's Vegas!
Personally more then 2 days in Vegas is too much.

Welcome back. My older son and his wife like it, but I don't.

And wtf was with the chocolate stuffed waffles at the Bellaggio breakfast buffet? The whole idea is horrible.

Welcome back to reality. It's bigger and it's home.

Something good about Vegas: from public transport to sizes of halls and attractions, the place can handle crowds very well.

The reason it can is that everything is programmed. Your choices are restricted, not just in scope but in kind.
